🚧 NEW: See Real-Time Road Closures Right on the Map

You’re all geared up, ready for your next ride — and then suddenly the road’s closed?

This can be quite frustrating and really put a damper on your driving pleasure. To avoid such buzzkills in the future, we've got good news:
With our newest feature, you’ll see road closures and restricted access areas directly on the map — clearly marked and exactly where you need them.

In this article, we’ll show you how to easily spot closures, what information gets displayed, and how to customize the view to suit your planning style.

🆕 What's new?

Starting now, the calimoto app shows road closures as Points of Interest (POIs) right on the map.

That means you’ll know before you ride which roads are closed or restricted — so you can optimize your route before hitting the throttle.

Available from these app versions:

  • Android: Version 10.6.0 or later
  • iOS: Version 7.14.0 or later

🗺️ What kinds of closures will you see?

The app shows two types of road restrictions:

â›” Closed Roads

Data source: TomTom

What it means: These roads are currently completely closed due to construction or other reasons, and are clearly marked so you can spot and avoid them at a glance.

Note: The information is updated several times a day, so you’re always in the know and never caught off guard.

⚠️ Restricted Roads

Data source: OpenStreetMap (OSM)

What it means: These roads have limited or conditional access — for example, they are only open during certain hours or are off-limits for motorcycles.

Note: This data comes from the OpenStreetMap community and isn’t updated in real-time. If you notice errors or missing information, it must be updated or corrected directly in OSM before the changes can be incorporated into calimoto.

🛠️ How to use the feature

Turn road closures on/off:

  1. Open the map view.
  2. Tap the "Map settings" icon (bottom right corner).
  3. In the "Road closures & restrictions " section, you'll find two new options:
    • Conditional restrictions
Closed at certain times or under certain conditions (OSM)
    • Construction sites
Permanently or long-term fully closed and not accessible for vehicles (TomTom)
  4. Use the toggles to turn each option on or off.

View closure details:

  1. Tap any closure POI icon on the map.
  2. A detail window will pop up showing type of closure, timeframe, and data source.

Good to know:

Road closures are enabled by default.

You can adjust this feature any time in the "Map settings".

The feature is currently only displayed during planning. Road closures are not automatically factored into live navigation.

The feature is currently only available in the mobile apps. This new function is not yet available in the Trip Planner on our website.
