When planning your route, you have the option to choose from four routing profiles:

- Fastest route with highways
- Fastest route without highways
- Winding
- Twisty
By default, the Winding profile is selected. At the moment, it’s not possible to change this default setting.
Tip:
You can mix and match profiles within the same route! During planning, tap a via-point and select the preferred routing profile right next to the distance.

It would be a great improvement to enable the default setting to be changed. It took me a very long time to realise that if you miss a waypoint it'll automatically revert to a winding route which sometimes is really not helpful.

I agree with @NikkiRidesBikes - it would be great to be able to change the default routing profile.
Sadly, as much as I like winding and twisty roads, when I need to get somewhere quickly i.e. hit the motorway for a long boring section before arriving at a more 'fun area', I don't seem able to change the setting for this - any guidance or suggestions please...?

Yes, you can change this when planning a route. The default routing profile is usually set to winding, but if you tap on the word “winding” or the small winding-road symbol, you can switch to another profile, including the fastest route or fastest route without highways/motorways.
You can also use via points and change the routing profile between individual sections of your route. For example, you could plan the first part as the fastest route with motorways, then switch to winding once you reach the more interesting riding area.

Hi everyone,
First of all, I want to say how much I love Calimoto. I've been using the app for about four years now and have logged roughly 22,000 km with it. It's become my go-to tool for motorcycle trip planning, and I've discovered countless fantastic roads thanks to it.
That said, I've run into an issue that I can't seem to solve.
I'm currently planning a trip through the Pyrenees and would like to ride over Col du Tourmalet, one of the iconic mountain passes in the region. However, when I try to create a route that passes through it, Calimoto refuses to connect the route across the mountain road. It seems as if the road is unavailable or disconnected, even though the pass should be open and routable.
I've tried adjusting waypoints and creating the route from different directions, but I keep getting the same result.
Am I missing a setting somewhere? Is there a seasonal road closure filter, map data issue, or another explanation for this behavior?
I'd appreciate any advice from the community or the Calimoto team.

And thank you for the kind words. Four years and around 27,000 km with calimoto is quite a journey, so we’re really glad to hear that the app has become such a regular part of your rides.
We took a closer look at the area around Col du Tourmalet and the screenshots you sent. You haven’t missed a setting here, and this doesn’t appear to be caused by a seasonal road closure option.
Unfortunately, this looks like one of those very specific map situations where our routing can interpret a road as being interrupted even though it should actually be connected and rideable. Cases like this are thankfully quite rare, but they can also be tricky to correct directly. A local change in the way the map data is processed can sometimes affect routing elsewhere, so our team has to be careful with these adjustments.
Until we can get this sorted out, there are two ways you can work around it. The option we’d recommend is to split the trip into two rides. You can plan and save the first ride up to the beginning of the affected section, then create a second ride starting on the other side. That way, you have both parts safely saved before setting off.
Alternatively, if you know the road is open and rideable, you can simply continue through the section. calimoto may be a little more nervous about the Tourmalet than you are, but it will continue recording your ride while you pass through it. 😉
Our team is continuously working on improving both our map processing and routing so that situations like this become even less common in the future.
