Is calimoto compatible with Android Auto?

Unfortunately, calimoto is not yet compatible with Android Auto, but we're on it!

Integrating Android Auto has proven to be more technically complex than expected, requiring significant time to adapt the foundational infrastructure. It’s a large-scale project that we’re tackling step by step, so we kindly ask for your understanding and a bit of patience.

Additionally, we need to meet Google’s strict requirements for Android Auto approval, which adds another layer of complexity to the process.

As soon as we have any updates, we’ll let you know right away! In the meantime, we recommend following us on Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram, and signing up for our newsletter. That way, you’ll stay in the loop — not just about Android Auto, but also about many other exciting updates! 🏍️

  • I am surprised to find that calimoto is compatibe with Apple car play but not Android auto, which I have. When will it arrive please?

  • I am affraid it will never be on Android Auto.
Looks like the owners/developers are Apple users and have no knowledge of the Android system.
They say it there selves in there statement: "The reason behind this lies in the technical intricacies involved in integrating with Android Auto, which require a substantial development process"

Companies like Here we go, Tom Tom, Waze and a whole lot of smaller companies can make it work in Android Auto but not a  company like Calimoto?? I don't believe that.
It most be some deal they made with Apple to keep it Apple only.
That is to bad because I always loved Calimoto.

Now I am using Calimoto ( free trails on different mail adresses) to create GPX files on our Europeaan travel and have the participants import those in there Android Auto systems. So I get the positive things of Calimoto anyway and don't even pay for it.

If they ever going to release the Android Auto version I am more then happy to pay for Calimoto and have my travel participants buy a subscription also because there navigation options are nr 1 for motorcyclist.

  • It is a pity! The interesting thing it that TomTom has more issues with connectivity and data sharing with iOS then with Android. Looking at the world wide market share of mobile OS, then Android is bigger than iOS.
We do see more and more carplay / android auto devices for motorbikes these days. It looks like calimoto is missing the boat over here.
I'm planning to buy a android auto device and guess that will also be the end of my calimoto subscription.

  • How annoying that you have chosen not to support Android Auto.  If you've already written an Android app, it seems hard to believe it would be that much more work to integrate with Auto.  I don't think I'll subscribe whilst you don't offer this support.

    2
  • This is disappointing.  With so many of us moving over to devices like Carpuride and Chigee this has to be a deal-breaker for a lot of customers.  I've been a subscriber for a couple of years but haven't used Calimoto much because of the practical difficulties of using a phone as your nav device. I've been using Calimoto to pre-plan routes and then chuck the GPX into my Garmin. Now that I've gone down the Chigee route there's really no point in keeping Calimoto when there are alternatives such as MRA which is AA enabled.  It's difficult to believe that it's such a development leap to go from Android App to AA enabled. Especially for an established company like Calimoto, when so many other companies have made the effort.

  • Same for me Glynn, last year again my mobile phone was broken, simply not being resistant to all the vibrations (even with the use vibration dampener)
and sun influences. It already broke two mobile phones (camera stabilisation) and even one the glue of the back went fluid in the hot sun. A mobile phone simply isn't a suitable navigation device for motorbikes.

Made the switch to Chigee too and don't see any added value from Calimoto at this moment not supporting AA. Chigee and Carpuride are gaining huge market share... even motorcycle brands are embedding AA and Carplay more and more. Looking at a market share, Android is much more used than iPhone.

    2
  • I have a premium account, but reading here, and that I'm about buying a Chigee, I have to think if I will need calimoto premium account any longer

    2
  • Come on guys...  If you want AA support then follow the link at the top of this thread to send them 'Feedback'. From what they say it seems they won't do it unless they get enough enthusiasm for it.

    2
  • I made my choice, resigning my subscription and put "lack of AA" as reason

Let's hope more do the same so there will be a financial reason to implement it

    1
  • Long time paying Calimoto user, usually transfer the GPX file to my Garmin Zumo XT but getting fed up with that now and using a Carpuride instead...disappointed there is no Android Auto capabilities, you should rethink this situation as I can see myself not renewing my subscription.

  • While it's great to see support for AA being expressed in this thread, you also need to send Calimoto some 'feedback'.  See the message from Calimoto at the top of this thread. It says:

We get it; A number of users are eager to have a calimoto integration with Android Auto. If you'd love to see it happen, or have other ideas for calimoto, feel free to drop us your thoughts. Simply head to our Contact Form and use the category "Feedback & Suggestions". We value feedback from our users and use it to continuously improve our app. 💪

Please go and read it, and follow the link to the send them "Feedback & Suggestions".

While they may monitor these community threads I don't think they take much notice of them!

  • Dear Users,

First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologise for the delayed response and for leaving your messages in limbo. We've recently been cleaning up the backlog in our Help Center and have seen all of your messages. Some of you may already know that if you contact us directly at support@calimoto.com, you'll typically receive a response within one or two days. This is the standard we aim to uphold, and we plan to bring this level of service to the Help Center as well. We've also removed some messages that weren't helpful or contained inappropriate language. We’re all adults here and want to keep the discussion fair and clean.

We hear you and your feedback! Your concerns are absolutely valid, and you are just as important to us as our iOS users, even if it might not always feel that way. It's worth noting that calimoto was initially developed exclusively for Android, so iPhone users also had to wait their turn when we first launched on iOS.

Support for using calimoto with CarPlay was developed earlier, partly due to Apple providing a well-defined development environment, along with comprehensive documentation and standards that made the integration process more straightforward.

On the other hand, developing support for Android Auto is not as simple. The technical requirements are more complex because of the wide range of devices and Android versions that need to be supported. Additionally, the resources we use internally will need to be adapted and partially restructured to accommodate these complexities, which naturally takes more time.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a clear ETA on when Android Auto support will be available, but rest assured, it is on our priority list. We are committed to making this happen, and we appreciate your patience.

A big thank you to those of you who have filled out our survey! Your input is invaluable in helping our developers understand where they need to focus their efforts.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us directly!

  • I think the initial response you provided, stated you provided this project a low priority, were probably the main reason why your android user were upset.

The tense used, and new response telling us it's too complicated to do, don't help reinsurance your android customers.

And recent survey you sent us, we're asking us if we were considering purchasing an iPhone to be able to use your application on our systems... Why that question were raised on the survey were very strange...

In my case, i change my motorcycle for a brand new one that includes an infosytem with support of Android Auto, so i can remove my phone from the handle bar (lots one phone this way while on Traffiq... Cost me a new phone)... So asking Android user to move to iPhone is like asking a muslin to become catholic... Not a good thing to ask.

I was never used the paid only option of Calimoto. But paid the premium price to encourage you. But knowing Apple user got a royal treat, and android nothing and no interest at all to made the same thing (well are low priority based on your answers), don't encourage me to continue the purchase of the premium option anymore....

    1
  • I so have the same thoughts like you do Erik.
    Initially the response over here:

Additionally, the demand for this feature is relatively low. For these reasons, we are currently giving this project low priority and it will unfortunately not be implemented in the near future.

This made me doubt if it will be implemented. While I still had good hope, the question in the questionnaire about swapping from Android to iPhone icreased my doubt again.

More and more motorbike get standard Android Auto / Carplay support. The market of aftermarket devices for adding AA / CP is growing in a fast pace. Manufacturers like Chigee and Carpuride (and equivalents) are releasing continuously new devices. The demand for AA support will grow and grow, especially looking at the world wide market share of Android versus iOS.

I do have a premium subscription, but haven't used calimoto for months, maybe even over 12 months. Hoping as staying a premium user, I do support the development.

But to be honest, I really have low hopes that the support for AA will be there within a short time period. Not sure if I will continue my subscription next year.

I didn't see the survey, but that question obviously shows the mindset we are working with here.

  • Hi @Erik Gaudin, thanks for reaching out with your honest feedback—we appreciate it, and we understand why you’re feeling disappointed. Supporting Android Auto is actually a high priority for us, and we’re actively working on it. The process is complex, as we need to restructure some key technical elements before Android Auto can be integrated. This restructuring is well underway, but it does mean progress will be step-by-step.
About the survey question—sorry for any confusion there! It wasn’t meant to suggest switching to a different platform but rather to understand our users' setups and preferences more broadly.

Thanks again for sticking with us and for your support through Premium. Rest assured, we're committed to bringing Android Auto to calimoto, and we’ll keep everyone posted on our progress. In the meantime, we’d love to stay connected with you on Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram for updates and riding inspiration!

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us @Herre. We completely understand how the initial response may have caused some doubts, and we want to reassure you that Android Auto is a priority for us. While the process is indeed complex, we're making steady progress and restructuring our technical framework to lay the foundation for it.
We really appreciate your continued support as a Premium member. And while Android Auto is on the horizon, we’ve got a few other exciting developments coming down the road that we think will add some great new features to calimoto. Stay tuned—there’s a lot to look forward to! 🚀

  • Hopefully we can have Android Auto ASAP, as with the new Chigee units that are now very popular lots of riders will bin Calimoto as its not compatible, I am one of those riders, Calimoto is great system, but this needs to be a priority for them IMO, get it sorted or get left behind ;-)

  • Hi @David McManus, thanks for sharing your thoughts! We recently visited the EICMA exhibition, which only reinforced our commitment to making Android Auto a reality. It’s definitely not a topic we’re overlooking, and we’re actively working towards it. We’ll keep everyone updated. Safe rides! 🚀

  • So black Friday offers abound. But are we getting Android Auto as there's lots of "this is a high priority" except it definitely wasn't when I asked earlier in the year before buying my Android Auto replacement for my Garmin XT. Literally no commitment to a time frame makes me doubt how committed you are in reality rather than PR.

  • Hey @Desmond Denman - thanks for your message! As mentioned before, while the process is indeed complex, we’re making steady progress and restructuring our technical framework to lay the foundation for Android Auto. It's simply not possible to provide a specific timeframe right now. This feature is high on our list, but at the same time, we need to ensure everything else continues to run smoothly and focus on features that have been highly requested by all of our users, like group rides, as well as some exciting new features that are still top-secret. 🤫

We’ll definitely let everyone know once we have updates on Android Auto! In the meantime, feel free to join the conversation over on our Facebook page with other users. The Help Center is more focused on offering direct support. 😊

  • Hi, a couple of months further, any progress yet😉?
I've the Chigee installed on my bike and ready for the first rides of the year. It would be nice to kick of the season with calimoto as my navigator.

  • I think we are likely to get to Mars before we have Android Auto..

    0
  • As a premium user, i hope it will be available soon. I am sceptical like a lot of us here. I believe there are a huge number of potential users out there just waiting. My wife for one! Dashcams are selling like hotcakes at present. Take advantage of this. Release it as a beta and then we can choose!

  • I start using alternative. I only using this app to prepare in advance my ryde. So when I saw those first comments from Calimoto stated it won't happen, i start looking somewhere else, and not considering renew my premium (that I don't really use the benefits)

  • Hey everyone - thanks for your messages in the last few days!

We totally understand your eagerness, especially with the riding season just around the corner! 😊 Our developers are still working hard to lay the groundwork for a smooth Android Auto integration, but as you can imagine, these things take time. We’re not just focused on Android Auto though – we’re also rolling out exciting Premium features like Group Rides, as well as other enhancements that will make the experience even better for all riders this year.

We know how important Android Auto is, and rest assured, we are on it! We’re grateful for your patience, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have something concrete to share.

Thanks for sticking with us, and we hope your rides this season are amazing (no matter which app you’re using)!

  • My subscription to Calimoto Premium is due to be renewed in April, and it seems that I won't be renewing it.

I've been a long-time Calimoto user, but like many others, I switched to a dedicated Android Auto unit instead of strapping my expensive Android phone to the bike last year.

I was utterly disappointed when I learned that casting is only available for IOS devices and felt neglected.

Android Auto is not new, although I reckon that adoption on motorcycles is not as common as with cars. The Honda Africa Twin came to market in 2021 with integrated Android Auto; four years later, Calimoto is still scrambling to deliver this, and there is a complete lack of perception of market tendencies.

The lack of a timeline to deliver this in the 10 months in this thread is baffling.

I tried one of your competitors, and it worked fine on my Android Auto dashboard; I will probably move away to their platform.

    1
  • Alex, what did you try? I've tried a few so far.

    0
  • Hi Alex Barros Durães – we hear you, and we’re sorry to see you go. We know how important Android Auto is for many riders, and while we can’t speed up the process as much as we’d like, we haven’t lost sight of it. It’s always tough to hear when a long-time user moves on, but we appreciate you giving calimoto a shot over the years.

If you ever decide to check back in, we’d love to have you. Until then, ride safe and enjoy the road ahead!
