Apple CarPlay – calimoto on Your Dashboard

Yay! calimoto is compatible with CarPlay.

Great news for all iOS riders: calimoto is Apple CarPlay compatible 🚀.

Apple CarPlay is Apple’s integration software designed to connect your iPhone to your vehicle’s dashboard. It allows you to display and control compatible apps – like calimoto – directly on the car’s screen.

  • Well does not work with the dashboard so a half hearted attempt at integration

  • Hi,

I really like this feature, but I noticed that some essential functions are missing—like on-screen speed camera warnings and useful extras such as altitude, which are available in the phone version. I understand that CarPlay has certain limitations, but other apps like Waze manage to display speed cameras. Are these features planned for a future update?

    Thanks!

  • Hey polgarzsolt86 – Thanks for your feedback – great to read you’re enjoying the feature so far!
You're absolutely right: Calimoto's CarPlay integration is a work in progress, and we’re continuously improving it. At the moment, speed cameras are shown on the map, but we don’t yet offer active warnings via CarPlay. As for extras like altitude info, we know those features are appreciated in the phone version, and it’s definitely helpful to hear that you’d like to see them in CarPlay too.
I’ll gladly pass your feedback along to our development team! That’s actually how we prioritize improvements: the more a request comes up through user feedback (like yours), the higher it moves on our internal roadmap. So thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts – it really does help shape future updates.
Ride safe and enjoy the road!

  • Hi,

I haven’t noticed any updates on these features since then. I was wondering if there’s any progress or if you could share some encouraging news regarding their status on the roadmap. These additions would significantly enhance the CarPlay experience, especially for regular users like myself.
    Thanks!

  • Hello @polgarzsolt86 – thanks for checking in and for sticking with us as a regular CarPlay user!
While there haven’t been any big feature releases lately, our team has been steadily working on small improvements behind the scenes. Some of these changes might not be immediately noticeable, but they’re aimed at refining the overall experience.
For example, one issue that was recently fixed was the camera positioning when connecting to CarPlay while navigation is already running. The camera now shifts slightly to the right as intended, so it lines up better with the CarPlay navigation interface.
We’ve also rolled out a few updates like the location-sharing dialog after starting a group ride from the CarPlay widget, and a fix where the map stayed zoomed out when opening saved rides.
At the moment, the team is running real-world test rides to check overall stability and continue refining the integration. More updates are on the way, and we really appreciate your patience and feedback while we keep improving things step by step!

  • What on earth does “camera positioning” mean?!?

    0
  • Thanks for the follow-up @Malcolm Riches! What we meant by "camera positioning" was the map view inside CarPlay when navigation is already running. The camera/view should be slightly offset to the right to make space for the navigation panel on the left.
Previously, the view stayed centered like it would on the phone or in tracking mode. That’s now been fixed. Hope that clears things up!

  • Never an issue for me so not the improvements customers really want. It was an easy fix for your developers I am sure.

  • Hi
Love the app and use it frequently. A problem I encounter when NOT following a route. The screen doesn’t move with my location ? I effectively ride off screen 🤷‍♂️. Location services are turned on

also, a big screen alert (same as using app on phone ) for speed cameras would be a very welcome addition

  • Hi @David Rawle - Thanks for your kind words and for riding with calimoto!

What you described definitely shouldn’t be happening. When not following a route, the map should still follow your position in tracking mode. For now, I’d recommend deleting and reinstalling the app. That’ll make sure you’re on the latest version and can help reset any background issues.
If the problem continues, please get in touch with us directly through the contact form at the top of this page so we can take a closer look together.
And thanks for the suggestion about speed camera alerts on the CarPlay screen. We’ll pass that on to the team. The more riders who ask for it, the higher it moves on the list!

  • Car Play specifically
Please introduce these features, competitors do.
Work with the Car Play overview screen.
Allow a mute for voice instructions

    Generally
    Show accurate speed limits
    Update maps more regularly
Allow for route types to be altered for sections of the trip.

  • Thanks for your reply. I’ll reinstall the app and see how that goes.
I agree with Malcolm - more and more motorcyclists are using CarPlay devices such as Chigee or Carpuride.
I have found there isn’t the perfect app. Calimoto is great for finding nice roads. Google maps is okay but no camera warnings. Waze isn’t great on CarPlay specifically for bikes. For me, one of the better ones is Sygic. Great map display, choose motorcycle windy routes and the added benefit of great speed camera warnings.

  • Hi @Malcolm Riches - Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Funnily enough, just today our Product team shared research focused specifically on CarPlay and rider feedback. The overview screen came up as one of the top requests, so believe us when we say they’re actively digging into what’s possible and how to improve it.
I’ve also made a note about the mute function for voice instructions. As always, the more riders who bring it up, the higher it moves on the list.
Regarding speed limits, we source that data from OpenStreetMap. We know accuracy can vary depending on the region. Our team is working on ways to update map data more frequently, but this is technically complex and involves multiple systems across navigation, data processing, and display logic. It’s something we’d all love to see improve, and it’s definitely on the radar.
About routing profiles: the standard setting is winding roads, but you can adjust the routing type between each via point, even while riding. Just pause, tap on the planning view, and select your preferred routing for the next section.
And just a quick reminder: We always welcome feedback and constructive criticism. If you need direct help, feel free to reach out via the contact form at the top of the page. To keep this space useful for everyone, we do remove comments that are off-topic or promoting competing apps.

    Thanks again and ride safe!

  • Thanks for the feedback. Re the CarPlay main screen others can do it not just Waze,Apple and Google maps so it must be possible.

  • I have deleted and reinstalled the app and I still have the same problem. When not following a route through CarPlay, the map doesn’t move with my location. I have taken a short video (albeit in my car) but it replicates the problem perfectly. Do you have an email address to forward it to ?. I have tried twice to upload using your support page - but that doesn’t appear to work either. I keep getting the Ooops we ran into a problem message.

  • I have just started using calimoto one thing that I think is missing is the function to navigate on split screen where I can have half screen for navigation and the other side for other functions like music control and so one. One other function I like with google is on CarPlay I still can’t use 3d map which is on present on calimoto.

  • Hi @Gareth Starkey – thanks for giving calimoto a try and for sharing your thoughts. Great to read that you’re already diving into the features!

Regarding split-screen navigation on CarPlay, that’s something we’d love to offer, but Apple has pretty strict limitations on how apps like ours can interact with the CarPlay layout. Unlike some of the default Apple or Google apps, we can’t fully control how the screen is split or which elements are shown side by side.

That’s also part of the reason why features like 3D map view work in some apps but not yet in calimoto via CarPlay. We’re always looking into what’s possible within Apple’s framework, and your feedback helps us prioritize.

Appreciate you taking the time to share this. Ride safe and keep the ideas coming.

  • I concur with several of the remarks here. I am considering a step over from android to apple, partly as well because of calimoto still not being on AA (and apple carplay being te better one of the 2).

I agree with the split screen wish, the voice mute (very important) and the speed limits. A I also wonder in general if calimoto considers traffic delays and jams and suggests to change the route? Never got into that because for car i use a dutch app with does this and way more. I never use altitude info, I use a bike, not a plane. So I am not going to vote it down (can't judge others for wanting features) , but please make it optional. For many people it will be irrelevant info most of the hime.

As for data about speed limits and stuff, in Europe there is this standard, DATEX II and every EU goverment gives a way to retrieve this data via accesspoints. https://transport.ec.europa.eu/transport-themes/smart-mobility/road/its-directive-and-action-plan/national-access-points_en

But maybe reach out to the dutch guys of "Flitsmeister" and see what they've got. They are doing a fantastic job on this. If their app just had the motorcycle features of calimoto, it would be a no brainer for me.

  • Hi @Eric van den Hout,

thank you so much for your detailed and constructive feedback — we really appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts!

You’ve mentioned several interesting points that our team is also actively looking into. At the moment, calimoto already displays road closures on the map, so riders can avoid blocked or restricted routes. We know that additional traffic data like delays and jams would make navigation even smarter, and that’s something we’re evaluating carefully for the future.

We also understand how important features like split-screen mode, voice mute, and better control over displayed information (like altitude) are for a comfortable and safe riding experience. Your suggestions help us prioritize these improvements on our roadmap.

Thanks again for your thoughtful input — feedback like yours helps us move in the right direction for all riders.

  • Getting error 100455 when using this app with Apple car play on the MotorTablet Pro Max - https://motortablet.com/en-gb/products/motortablet-pro-max-bmw

The initial map screen is shown but when I click new ride the above error comes up

Can you help I was going to use this for my tour to spain in July

    0
  • You should not trust on an app in beta status. There is a reason why something is in beta. That is because it is still being tested and adjusted to run stable. So test it, even to Spain if you want, and report your errors, but make sure you have a back-up plan.

  • @NDG55 - thanks for your message! I also saw your support ticket and have replied to you there with more details, so we can sort this out properly together.

Just to clarify for everyone reading along: Apple CarPlay has been compatible with calimoto for quite some time now and is no longer in beta. Android Auto, on the other hand, is currently still in beta, which is where some limitations and issues can still occur.

In your specific case, we’ll take a closer look via your ticket and hopefully get this resolved well in time for your Spain tour in July.

@Tuckson - thanks for your input as well. You’re absolutely right regarding beta phases in general. That said, this particular issue is related to CarPlay, which should be running stable, so we’ll definitely investigate it further.
