How Do I Record a Ride?

Want to just hit the road and start tracking your route? Let’s go!

Start recording

  1. Open the map.
  2. Tap the "New Ride" button and select "Record your trip."
  3. Enjoy the ride 😉!

Tip:

While recording your ride, you can display up to 4 values from 13 in the cockpit. Learn more about that here.

Pause recording

  1. Open the tour options during recording (the three bars at the bottom left).
  2. Tap "Pause."
  3. When you're ready to resume your ride, tap "Resume recording."

End recording

  1. Open the ride options during the recording (the three bars at the bottom left).
  2. Tap "End ride."
  3. Your ride summary will appear, where you can view, name, describe, share, publish, or save your ride as completed.

Alternatively:

You can also end the recording directly during your break. Just tap "End ride" right below "Resume recording."

  • While this is helpful, it doesn't go far enough (slight pun there).  Having recorded a ride, in my case a week long trip around Ireland, I want to save and edit it.  I'd like to split it up into days (I recorded it all in one), add a couple of days I missed, add detail about the places we visited, use the GPX data to create animation for a video and share with others.  There appears to be no way of saving or even basic editing of the trip, but it's probably just me looking in the wrong place!

  • Further to above, apart from seeing the ride on the map I can't see where it's saved or even if it is saved???

  • Hi @Jarrod Bartlett and thanks for also reaching out to us directly — we've replied to your message, but we’ll share the info here too in case others land on this page with the same question.

If calimoto recorded your ride, it will show up under "My Rides" in the app or on our website as a completed ride based on your GPS tracking data. These types of rides can’t be edited directly, but here’s what you can do:

    • On the website, you’ll see stats and ride details (like average speed, lean angle, and terrain type) on the right-hand side.
    • You can rate, tag, and save it for your records — or even share it with the community if you'd like.
    • In the app, you can also add photos to your ride.

Want to tweak or rework the ride? Use the red “Convert into route” button on the website. That'll create a new planned ride that you can fully edit, split, or modify — and save again under “My Rides.”

Hope that helps — and safe travels!

  • Why when you press pause ride is it not showing on the completed ride, with icons or flags?
Why are the ride pauses not detected automatically, if you forget to press it, then your nominal speed is lowered?

  • Hi @Peter – great questions! When you pause a ride, it's technically still ongoing, the tracking hasn’t been finalized yet. A ride only gets saved as “completed” once you manually end it. That’s when we stop recording and move it to your list of finished rides.
As for automatically detecting pauses: we’ve looked into it, but there are a lot of tricky edge cases. For example, stopping at a scenic spot, gas station, or even a long red light could all be mistaken for a pause. To avoid misinterpreting those situations, we leave it up to you to control the pause and resume functions. That way, your average speed and ride data stay as accurate as possible.
Appreciate the feedback though, we’ll pass it along!
    Ride safe!
