🌙 NEW: Dark Map View (Dark Mode)

You asked for it, and now it’s here: Dark Mode while riding 🙌

Riding at dusk, at night, or through long tunnels and the bright map is glaring? Then our new dark map view is just what you need.

In this article, you’ll learn how to activate the dark map view, what the "Automatic" setting does, and what you should keep in mind.

🌙 What’s new?

With the new Map appearance setting, you can choose whether the map is displayed in light or dark mode while riding. This makes the map easier on your eyes in the dark and reduces glare.

⚙️ How to Set the Map Appearance

  1. Open Settings: Go to your Profile and tap Settings.
  2. Choose map appearance: In the Display section, tap Map appearance and choose one of the following options:
    • Light: The map is always displayed in light mode.
    • Dark: The map is always displayed in dark mode while riding.
    • Automatic: The map automatically switches between light and dark mode depending on the situation (see below).
  3. Confirm (Android only): Tap OK to save your selection. On iOS, your selection is applied immediately.

How Does "Automatic" Work?

"Automatic" is the default setting. The map appearance does not follow your smartphone’s light/dark mode, but rather your surroundings:

  • After sunset (once the sun is 6° below the horizon), the map automatically switches to dark mode.
  • In tunnels, the map also automatically switches to dark mode.
  • After sunrise or when leaving a tunnel, the map automatically switches back to light mode.

⚠️ Please Note

  • Dark mode only affects the map, not the entire app.
  • It’s only active while riding, during navigation or recording. When planning a ride or pausing your ride, the map switches back to light mode.
  • Dark mode is only available in the Standard map style, not in the Satellite, Terrain, or 3D map styles.
  • Apple CarPlay uses the map appearance you set in the app. With Android Auto, the setting is not synced.

Ride safe, even after dark! 🏍️🌙
