How Do I Download Offline Maps?

Please note:

Offline maps are only available with a calimoto Premium subscription!

  1. Open your "Profile."
  2. Go to "Settings."
  3. Tap "Offline Maps" (Android) / "Download Offline Maps now" (iOS) to download new offline maps.
  4. Toggle the "Use offline maps" slider to enable/disable offline maps.

In the settings, you can also see how many offline maps you’ve downloaded and how much space they take up. Since offline maps can be large, we recommend downloading only the ones you need for your upcoming trip.

If possible: Save your offline maps to your device's internal memory.

If you're having problems downloading offline maps, check out this article.

To delete an offline map, tap the trash bin icon next to the download.

➡️ Some countries are grouped together in one collective offline map. Find more information about those here.

FYI:

We recommend using offline maps only when you have no access to mobile data, as online maps provide a more seamless riding experience. 😉

  • I've asked this in the past and received the answer being it too technical and also not enough dev resources, but would like to ask and suggest again to partition Canada into regions/provinces or whatever makes sense to make it possible, please. On my iOS phone, Canada alone is a 8.9GB file and while I might have the space, that's a very very large download even on Wifi. It would make sense to break up Canada in either whatever makes sense like east or west, or BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, etc regions based if one was visiting or lives in those area(s). Thank you!

  • Hey @jazzyrider - first of all, apologies for the delayed reply! We’ve been a little busy behind the scenes lately, but we’re finally catching up on our Help Center comments. 😅

And I couldn’t agree with you more! 8.9 GB is a pretty hefty download, especially if you’re only planning to ride through a small part of Canada.

I can definitely relate to your frustration. Working in Support, I regularly have to delete and download offline maps again for testing, and Germany alone is around 8.3 GB. So believe me, I feel your pain! 😉

The good news is that our Product team is aware of this request, and the possibility of dividing larger maps into smaller, more manageable regions has already been discussed internally. This isn’t limited to Canada, either. It’s something we’re looking at more generally.

Of course, I can’t promise when or whether we’ll see changes here, but it’s definitely a recognised issue, and feedback like yours helps us demonstrate just how useful this improvement would be.

So thank you for bringing it up again! I’ll gladly add another +1 to our feedback list. The more riders ask for something, the better we can communicate its importance to our Product team.

Thanks again for your patience and for helping us improve calimoto!
